Pilar is a Communication Officer at Notting Hill Housing. She works at our Butterwick head office in Hammersmith and her specialist subject is internal communication. This means she helps staff get their message across… or up… or down. Her hero is Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama and here’s why.
The Dalai Lama
At a late age, and in an incredible act of self awareness, the Dalai Lama realised he’d spent his life making assumptions about other ways of life based on his own views and yet he had never left Tibet. He decided to go travelling around the world to see for himself if his way was really the only way.
Notting Hill's strong ethical beginnings (we started in 1963 as a response to unethical and dodgy landlords) are something that attracted Pilar to the organisation. We don’t make assumptions, if something isn’t right we listen to our customers and staff and try to change it rather than just accepting things the way they are.
Love where you work
“I want to work somewhere where I feel comfortable, that has ethics and that cares. Working for Notting Hill makes me feel good because it’s a worthy cause to get out of bed for and I have a laugh too”.
A bit more about Pilar
Pilar started at Notting Hill as a Facilities Officer. This gave her a great insight into Notting Hill and what a nice bunch people we are. She was seconded to Marketing (who are now called the Communication Team after briefly experimenting with simply being called “Nigel”) as Marketing Coordinator. She then got the job permanently and when the post of Communication Officer came up she applied for that. Notting Hill are now helping her fund a post graduate degree.
Three words
Asked to sum up Notting Hill Housing in three words (which in itself is no mean feat) Pilar said:
- friendly, innovative and brave
